No Police
One of your first reactions immediately after being involved in an accident will probably be to get in touch with the authorities. You will want the police to be in attendance, so that they can record all the details of the incident and verify exactly what happened. However, sometimes you may call for support but nobody arrives. This could be due to the authorities being overwhelmed by other incidents, or perhaps due to especially bad weather at the time. In this case, you need to take on the role of reporter in chief. You have to record all the details and make a note of all the witnesses. It's important to write every detail down and not rely on your memory, especially in such a stressful situation. You can use your mobile phone to take photographs from every conceivable angle.
Intentional Accidents
You may be unlucky to be involved in an accident which was intentionally caused by the other driver. While this is very unusual, it nevertheless happens. Those other drivers will stage an accident in order to try and benefit from an insurance settlement.
What to Look For
You will usually be able to tell right away if something is fishy. The driver of the other vehicle will not exhibit "normal" behaviour immediately after the accident but will typically appear to be very aggressive. They will forcefully point the finger of blame at you, even if you know that it wasn't your fault.
One of the ways that they stage these accidents is to move in front of your car before decelerating very quickly, so that you run into the back of their vehicle. They may also move alongside you on a motorway before indicating to you that it is safe for you to move over. This will be their opportunity to drive into you and claim that it was your fault.
